What is « marine » collagen?
Naticol® is extracted from fish skin, then made bioavailable through a unique process developed specifically by Weishardt. This process is divided into 2 steps: extraction of the collagen followed by a targeted enzymatic hydrolysis. Our product is thus endowed with a unique collagen peptide profile.

Our quality commitments
Even before the production stage, Weishardt ensures the perfect quality of its raw materials. Our quality requirements concern:
- The freshness of the delivered skins
- The cutting of the skins (composition and purity of the cut skins)
- The freezing process
- The control of negative temperatures during transport
- The quality control at reception
To meet our requirements, all of our fish skin suppliers are EU-approved. They undertake to respect our strict specifications, and are regularly audited by our teams.
The production is based on a 2-step process with double purification.
- Step 1: extraction of the collagen from the skin and purification of the extracted collagen.
- Step 2: enzymatic hydrolysis of the extracted collagen and purification of the collagen peptides obtained.
The process of enzymatic hydrolysis is unique and specific to Weishardt. The choice of enzymes, temperature, and time of hydrolysis will determine the peptidic and organoleptic profiles obtained.
During production, our product does not undergo any ionization or irradiation treatment. The collagen obtained is thus a protein that is 100% pure and of natural origin: no additives, flavors, or coloring.
To ensure the final quality of our range, we carry out a strict analysis of the Physico-chemical and bacteriological parameters of the product. We also verify the absence of contaminants (heavy metals, pesticides, veterinary drug residues, etc.).
The finished Naticol® product is thus: GMO-free – additive-free – lactose-free – gluten-free

The production of Naticol® is based on many considerations and commitments to sustainability.
The Naticol® range is also available certified with the Friend of the Sea® sustainability label.
The marine origin of Naticol® presents a real environmental advantage. This resource emits fewer greenhouse gases than other types of sourcing commonly used for collagen production.
In order to protect the marine ecosystem, Weishardt diversifies the origins of the fishes as much as possible; and to limit its impact on the environment, uses the following sustainable resources:
- Farmed fishes, which is a renewable resource.
- The wild fishes used are all from non-endangered species.
Naticol® thus plays a role in the circular economy, which contributes to the preservation of the planet’s resources. Collagen production optimizes the use of these resources and limits their waste. Indeed, our collagen peptides are derived from fish skins, which are themselves by-products of filleting plants. By producing this range, Weishardt adds value to a product that would otherwise be discarded. This concept is called “upcycling”.
Moreover, we attach great importance to limiting our impact on the environment and focus on recycling and recovery of our waste (over 95% for our French site).
